Bonds, currencies & stocks of emerging nations are leading the investment pack this year as the dollar sinks to a four-year low & investors diversify beyond dollar-denominated venues.

South Korea rocketed up more than 20% benefiting from AI investors broadening their chip holdings.

Because of the global economy’s over-reliance on a handful of drivers, particularly spending by U.S. AI-related companies & the associated stock market boom, risks to the global financial system are “tilted to the downside”, the IMF said in an update to its World Economic Outlook.

Last week, the Swiss franc’s value climbed to 0.77 against the dollar after gaining more than 17 percent since the beginning of 2025.

The franc reached its strongest since 2015 against both the dollar & the euro as investors sought safe stores of wealth outside of the U.S.

As widely expected, the U.S. Federal Reserve’s rate-setting Open Market Committee made no changes to its policy interest rates at its 28 January meeting, leaving the rate on deposits at 3.5 percent and the lending rate at 3.75 percent.

The decision was made on a 10-to-2 vote.

US gov is to provide a $1.3b loan & $277m in financing to USA Rare Earth, the company mine rare earth minerals & uses them to produce high-tech magnets.

In return, they will issue 16.1m shares to the U.S. commerce dept as well as warrants good for an additional 17.6m shares.
