In May, the U.S. federal government spent $316 billion more than it took in, a deficit 14% greater than in 2024, the treasury department reported, deepening the fiscal year’s loss to $1.36 trillion.
This year’s budget hole is expected to deepen by another $1.2 trillion & is expected to have added up to $776 billion through May, the eighth months of the government’s fiscal year.
The trump administration has banned the sale of “electronic design automation” service (EDA) by U.S.-based firms to China. EDA technologies are software systems that create and test advanced computer chip designs.
China can manufacture chips but, as yet, remains dependant on foreign services to design them.
